In late 1984 or early 1985, my husband David contracted Murine Thypus from the bite of a flea after he trapped a rat at his art studio. He was deathly ill and it took doctors a LONG time to figure out what he had. His fever burned at 104 for over 2 weeks. It was a very anxiety-inducing time. When he recovered and started to produce art again, I noticed the images literally burst forth from his brain and spilled onto the paper. Using the monotype medium, he could work very quickly, which suited the way his mind was working. So I called the group of work “Split Mind,” because it was as if his mind had split open! I don’t think David likes this category title very much, but that’s what I see. Humor, creatures, myths all mixed together with lots of energy.
